Chapter 5. Extracting Metadata from the Input File

You can extract metadata from your flat data file. Right-click the first edge and select New metadataExtract from flat file.

The following window opens:

You must find the input.dat file and click the Open button.

The Metadata Editor fills up:

Click Next. After that, you can see the following window:

As you can see, the wizard guessed that the records consisted of three fields and it also understood that the third field values were integer numbers.

If you want, you can replace the three default field names (Field1, Field2 and Field3) by others: fname, lname and salary, for example.

To do that, click the Field1 item after which it appears on a blue background.

You only need to type the desired field name (fname) and click Enter.

Do the same with the other two field names. The result will look like this:

Now click Finish. This way you have created metadata. But they are still not assigned to the edges.
